The wait is now officially over. The first flight of Turkish Airlines’ has touched down Asmara International Airport tonight.
Turkish envoy to Eritrea, Ambassador Firat Sunel brakes the wonderful news on his twitter page a couple of hours ago.
Turkish Airlines, which officially now includes Asmara (Eritrea) in its network of flights has been selected as “Europe’s Best Airline Company” for the last four years. Eritrea became the 27th country in the flight network of the airlines across the African continent.
Turkish Airlines will fly to Asmara 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, beginning today, Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
Asmara – Istanbul travelers can now enjoy a special inaugural price of € 464 Euro (USD $615 ) round trip including all taxes.

Turkish Airlines Starts Direct Flights to Eritrea

TURKISH Airlines, the country’s national flag-carrier, started direct flights into Eritrea’s capital Asmara on Tuesday, increasing its number of destinations on the African continent to 42.
Flights between Istanbul and Asmara will occur three times a week: on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The starting price for an all-inclusive round trip is 464 euros.
Turkish Airlines announced that its operating net income reached 495 million Turkish lira and the net income 398 million Turkish lira in the year’s second quarter.
Turkish Airlines carried 26 million passengers in the first six months of 2014, having the capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) rise 19 percent, and the Revenue Passenger Kilometer rise 19 percent as well.
The company’s passenger load factor stood at 79 percent, the airlines statement said.
The number of transit passengers from abroad increased by 28 percent comparing to the same period last year, having the total number of international passengers increase to 44 percent.
Turkish Airlines flies to 260 cities and 263 airports in 108 countries. The company owns a number of 263 planes, including 200 narrow-body, 54 wide-body aircraft and 9 cargo planes.
According to the statement, the company continues to aim in being one of the world’s leading five-star airlines, by increasing its service quality and by maintaining a healthy financial structure focused on profitable growth.
Turkish Airlines were awarded by customers Europe’s Best Airline each year from 2011 to 2014.

Turkish Airlines Begins Flight to Eritrea
In line with the agreement concluded between the Governments of Eritrea and Turkey, Turkish Airlines has begun regular flight to and fro Eritrea 3times a week.
The first flight of the Air-Bus 321 from Istanbul to Asmara accommodated a total of 68 Eritrean nationals. Heads of the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority, representative of Turkish Airlines and members of the Turkish Embassy in Eritrea and of other countries were present at the welcoming ceremony.
Speaking at Hotel Asmara Palace in connection with the inauguration flight in which Senior Government and PFDJ officials, as well as invited guests took part, Mr. Paulos Kahsay, Director General of the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority, said that the launching of the Turkish Airlines flight would make significant contribution in strengthening trade partnership, in addition to the fostering of bilateral relations.
He further indicated that the Airlines would provide cargo service on the basis of Eritrea’s domestic and international air transport laws. Mr. Paulos also expressed conviction that the new service would ease the constraints encountered as regards to and fro Eritrea.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Firat Sunel, Ambassador of Turkey to Eritrea, said that the flight of Turkish Airlines to Eritrea would strengthen relations between the two countries, in addition to encouraging Turkish nationals to engage in investment ventures in Eritrea, besides making due contribution in promoting trade and tourism activities.
Likewise, the representative of Turkish Airlines, Mr. Hassan Hamdan, noted Eritrea’s strategic importance in the Horn region, and expressed satisfaction with the beginning of flight service between Asmara and Istanbul.
It is known that Turkish Airlines provides service to over 60 million people annually through 260 routes.
