Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on Sunday met Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Mohammed and Presidential Adviser Yemane Gebreab in Jeddah.

The meeting was attended by Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Gattan, minister of state for African countries affairs at the foreign ministry, and Jamal bin Bakr Balkhyour, director general of the ministry’s Makkah Region’s branch.

The two foreign ministers discussed consolidation of bilateral ties, particularly trade and investment ties as well as issues of mutual interest.

Both sides further discussed the current developments in the Horn of Africa, especially peace and friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

The two Foreign Ministers also noted that the recent visit of Somalia’s President to Eritrea and new developments in the Horn will contribute to helping Somalia overcome its challenges.

Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on his part affirmed that Saudi Arabia will make its own contributions to consolidating the peace.

Saudi’s Foreign Minister finally accepted his counterpart’s invitation to visit Eritrea soon.

It is to be recalled that President Isaias pays a one-day working visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud late last month.

Saudi Arabia and Eritrea enjoy historical and brotherly ties.

Following the formation of the Anti-Terror Quartet (ATQ) comprising Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain, Eritrea sided with the group in support of its principled stand.

Eritrea also stood firmly with the ATQ after it cut ties with Qatar in protest of its support to terrorist groups and Iran, which is openly flouting international laws by interfering in the internal affairs of the countries in the Middle East.
