Ghirmay Ghebreslassie has repeated his previous year’s win at the Grand Prix of Berne. The 21-year-old Eritrean won ahead of the Kenyan Sylvester Kipchirchir and his countryman Simon Tesfay, who had been living in Switzerland since 2004.

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie, the 2015 Beijing world marathon champion and New York marathon winner, won in 49:25 minutes, only 3:18 minutes short of the record held by his famous countryman Zersenay Tadesse in 2004.

With 33,618 runners from 104 nations, the organizers of the 36th Grand Prix of Berne announced a participant record at the largest running event in German-speaking Switzerland.
