“Time for AU to call a spade a spade and hold the bull by its horn” – Amb. Girma Asmerom

Eritrea’s permanent representative to the African Union and UNECA, H.E Ambassador Girma Asmerom, today made a resounding speech on behalf of H.E. President Isaias Afwerki.

Part of the speech that caught everyone’s attention was the bold declaration he read as the only means to end the deadlock between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

In his eloquent remarks, he clearly stated that his country is not setting preconditions to normalize relation with Ethiopia but simply requesting all the parties involved to fulfill their obligations.

Interestingly, Ambassador Girma assured the heads of States that gathered at the AU headquarter in Addis Ababa to discuss issues of the continent by stating that, according to a special instruction he received from President Isaias Afwerki,

“if Ethiopia withdraws its army from occupied sovereign Eritrean territory including the town of Badme in the morning, dialogue between the two countries will start in the afternoon.”
