AWSOME. Among the nine riders that represent Team Dimension Data at this year’s Tour de France, the two are Eritreans: Daniel Teklehaimanot , the newly crowned Eritrean Road and TT champion and his fellow countryman Natnael Berhane.

By Team Dimension Data,

After naming a 13 rider long list for the Tour de France less than a week ago, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka is extremely happy to announce its final selection of 9 riders that will take on the 103rd edition of the Le Grand Boucle – the first ever for an African World Tour team.

Three African riders form part of the team. Newly crowned Eritrean Road and TT champion Daniel Teklehaimanot will once again be on the start of the race. After a strong month of racing, that also saw him winning the King of Mountain (KOM) classification for a second time at the Criterium du Dauphiné, he will again try to make the fans of our African team proud.

Daniel Teklehaimanot will be joined by his fellow countryman Natnael Berhane, who will race his first Tour de France, and South African Reinardt Janse van Rensburg.

Steve Cummings, who won our African team’s first ever stage at the Tour de France on Mandela Day 2015, will spearhead the rest of the line-up together with Mark Cavendish, who will seek to add a 27th stage win to his illustrious palmares. The Manx Missile will be able to count on his lieutenants Mark Renshaw and Bernhard Eisel, with the latter one also being our team’s road captain. Serge Pauwels and Norwegian Road and TT champion Edvald Boasson Hagen will round out our 9 rider line-up for the Le Grand Boucle.

Natnael Berhane – Rider

(wrote on his Facebook page)

I’m happy and proud to announce my selection for the next tour de France !!! Thank you to my team for the confidence and the chance to be at the start of my first Le Tour De France.

Daniel Teklehaimanot – Rider

(after winning the Eritrea Road Race Championships Title)

“I am very happy for this victory. Today the race was really difficult though, it was a flat course so we had to be on the attack all day to make it hard. The Eritrean jersey is something I am really proud to wear and now, the team is not final, but it is possible that I can show the jersey off at the Tour de France on every stage and not just the time trial like last year.”

Natal Berhane was the undisputed Eritrean National Champion last year. But this year, Daniel Teklehaimanot does the double by wining both the Individual Time Trial (ITT) and Road Race Championship Title to become this year’s National Champion. This means that he will proudly wear a jersey that dons the Eritrea’s national flag through out the 19 stages of the 2016 Tour de France that is starting next week.
